5 Things: Visiting Mrs. Schulz

Over my lunch hour, I stopped at Flowerama, purchased some foliage, and surprised Melissa at her school. Here are 5 things about that visit:

1. I always love the way Melissa reacts when I stop in unexpectedly. She gets really cute, shy, and appreciative.

2. When her kids returned from lunch, several of them started poking me in the back, side, arms, etc. One kid said, "I'm just checking to see if you're a robot." He was relieved to see that I felt like a human. I assured him that if I was a robot, I would have human skin so that I could fool the ignorant, the elderly, and the children." He became curiously frightened. And didn't poke me any more.

3. She looked really pretty today.

4. I jotted down Melissa's answers to the question I asked this morning. I asked her a follow-up question ... "Everything in this room seems so miniature ... the kids, the chairs, the desks, the low-hanging posters, etc. Do you ever feel like a giant? And then when you leave school and go back out into the 'real world' do you ever feel like a midget since everything is normal-sized?" She said "no."

5. I think she's the best teacher in the universe.
